Much work on temporality focuses on the past (in terms of memory, trauma, and history) or, increasingly, the future. What happens to the present in this work? How is the present encountered and experienced, and by whom? What are the politics of the present?

This strand of work focuses especially on the affective experience of the present, considering cultural theories proposed by Raymond Williams and Lauren Berlant.

Publications are in process; see Austerity Futures: Debt, Temporality and (Hopeful) Pessimism as Austerity Mood for one attempt to develop some of these ideas.
